Lera Rainer

Age: 17 years old.

One of the protagonists in the shared narrative. The oldest sibling of the Rainer family, Lera takes on the role of mother when her parents die.

Lera is fierce, manifested through her fighting style, loyalty, and major distrust of others. She’ll fight for those she loves until her last breath. And she won’t stop searching until she finds her lost younger brother, Aiden. I’d advise you not to get in her way, or you might taste the wrath of her venom.

Haylia Rainer

Age: 14 years old.

The second, equally important though shorter in stature, protagonist. Middle child in the Rainer family, and lover of snacks.

Haylia in an optimist, allowing her to see the best in people. Her strength comes from her innocence and goodness. She isn’t the best fighter, but trains the best she can under her sister’s tutelage. Don’t leave your snacks unattended near her, or you may find only crumbs left over.

Prince Luke Jordan

Age: 19 years old.

Son of King Tynan, and heir to the throne of Areks.

Raised by a tyrant, Luke fights against the expectations placed upon him. He is hesitant to become king one day, having only known his father’s example. He wants to shift Areks toward a more peaceful direction, but isn’t sure how to reshape hundreds of years of tradition. He hides a dark part of himself behind strong moral character and the determination to choose a better path for his kingdom.

Luke is pretty amazing, and you’ll want him to be your boyfriend by the end of the book. Though his heart might be claimed by another.

Peter Folkvar

Age: 15 years old.

Get ready to think shy boys are hot. He’s good with a bow and has rockin’ intuition.

When Peter’s parents were young, they divorced and he went to live with his mom in the kingdom of Lux. When she passed away, he moved in with his father in the town of Jenesis shortly before our heroines and prince arrive.

He may not say much, but don’t mistake that for a lack of strength. Peter tends to “pop” in on his enemies and can hold his own in battle when protecting those he loves.

Marek

The mysterious antagonist and bearer of Dark magic. He seeks the one who carries the Light to steal it for himself.

Kyran

Age: 30 years old.

As leader of the notorious Shadows, he despises the royal family and seeks to overthrow the crown. Kyran works hand-in-hand with Marek, wielder of Darkness, to gain power and fight against the Equitas, who threaten to interrupt his plans.

He can be a real snodrag at times. Watch out when you’re around him, as things may not always be as they seem.

Aiden Rainer

Age: 7 years old.

Youngest sibling in the Rainer family. A sweet soul with a frightening power.

Aiden travels with his mother and father to visit his dying grandfather he’s never met, only to witness the murder of his parents and become a slave of the Shadows.

Josias MacFie

Age: 20 years old.

A thief and a scoundrel, but hey, we love him anyway.

When his hometown of Venzor is burned to the ground, Josias seeks new purpose with the survivors. Thievery becomes a way of life. One item he “borrowed” is his main weapon of choice, a chain that lights up as if it is fresh from the blacksmith’s fires, capable of delivering a scorching hit or two.

Lera and Haylia differ on their acceptance of him, but where would an adventure be without a good thief in your party?

Daniel Duff

Age: 16 years old.

He doesn’t come from the best of families, but he doesn’t let it stop him from working for what he wants. He possesses loads of book knowledge and understands more about magic than your typical villager.

Fallon Hammon

Age: 58 years old.

As leader of the Equitas, rebel group fighting against the Shadows, Fallon doesn’t have much time for anything else.

When Prince Luke was a child, Fallon was the head general of the Areks’ army. He believed in his king, but understood that the young prince did not. He protected young Luke as if he was his own son. When his family died during a bloody war campaign, Fallon lost his conviction for what he fought for. He had a falling out with the crown and disappeared, only resurfacing when the need arose to stand against the Shadows.

Nerine Talise

Age: 23 years old.

Commander of Princess Jalindra’s royal guard, she is a sober soul with the power to command the waters.

Nerine kills all who attempt to enter the realm of Jalindra, but when a certain bearer of Light warms her heart, she believes in the power of hope again.

Faheem Varon

Age: ???

As a master of time and space, it’s hard to say exactly how old this guy is. Faheem doesn’t take no for an answer, and possesses the ability to train the sorriest of magic wielders into reaching their full potential.

He may not seem warm and cuddly, but his house becomes a home for our young adventurers, and they couldn’t succeed without him.

Mati Varon

Age: 82 years old.

The sweetest lady with a bit of sass. And if she ever offers to mend your clothing, I’d let her. She’s got some tricks up her sleeve. Well, yours, after she’s done with it.

Emilia MacFie

Age: 18 years old.

The brains and strategist behind the Equitas, and training to become a doctor, Emilia is a level-headed woman whose strength is felt just by her presence. She is also Josias’s younger sister, and older sister to Gabrielle.

Gabrielle MacFie

Age: 16 years old.

She is Josias’s youngest sister, but she doesn’t need anybody but herself. Trained in gladiator camps, Gabrielle is an amazing fighter with the power of a lioness. Her ambition is her motivation, and she’ll do whatever it takes to get what she wants.

Freya and William Rainer

Parents of Lera, Haylia, and Aiden Rainer.

William, a poor farmer, fell in love with an aristocrat’s daughter, Freya. They ran away together and started a family on a farm deep in the heart of Lux. 

Grandfather

To spare his family from the hunters of a special stone that his family line passed down for generations, the grandfather of Lera, Haylia, and Aiden lived his life in hiding. He sought to save his daughter, Freya, from the fate of becoming stone-bearer until the last days of his life.  

Eula

Town healer. Possesses magic to hide objects or people from sight. 

Eula is a kind soul who cares for the grandfather during his last weeks of life. She plays a key role in helping the unusual stone stay hidden from the Shadows for a time.
